You hear so much about post-op drainage, but what about pre-op? Pre-Op drainage is best to have 1-2 days before your surgery. It helps to reduce fluid and inflammation and prepare the body's lymphatic system before surgery.
Non-Cosmetic Drainage is for those who have undergone knee surgery, back surgery, single or double mastectomy, or any corrective surgery as lymph drainage not only reduces the edema but it also helps to reduce the formation of scar tissue.
With cosmetic surgeries or procedures such as a Mommy Makeover, Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), Lipo 360, etc. lymphatic drainage is crucial in recovery. It helps to keep the edema down and minimize fibrosis that can form in the tissue.
You've just had your surgery. Your body is trying to adapt to the pain and the last thing you want to think about is getting in your car to come to the office for post-op care. I get it! For the past two years, I have been adamant about getting lymphatic care in the office but, I now understand know difficult that can be (especially if you've had a BBL)! So, I am now bringing the care to you!

Lymphatic Drainage consists of very light movement of the lymph fluid located just below the skin's surface. The lymph nodes of the body are first gently stimulated followed by gentle strokes towards the lymph nodes. Some light compression (squeezing) may be incorporated as well. Since lymphatic drainage moves fluid towards the heart and kidneys for optimal drainage, there are a number of contraindications (conditions in which a service cannot be performed) that prohibit lymphatic drainage work. See question 3 for more details.
Ultimately, the decision to have a lymphatic session is up to you. Lymphatic work helps the healing process as lymphatic system is the first system of defense. It is why your body immediately begins to become inflamed when you get injured. If you have a history of inflammation or edema in the body, lymphatic work may be good for you. Please note: There are multiple contraindications that won't allow lymphatic work. See question 3 for details.
Lymphatic drainage is, though gentle pressure, actively moving fluid towards the kidneys and heart so that the fluid can safely expel from the body. This means that there can be many contraindications to lymphatic drainage massage. Here are just a few of the big ones: Blood clots or deep vein thrombosis, severe contagious infections, fevers, congenital heart failure, renal failure, cellulitis, localized varicose veins, eclampsia or high-risk pregnancy, liver failure, severe artherosclerosis, active malignant cancers, while on radiation/chemotherapy treatments, severe hypertension. While there are others, it is best to consult with your physician prior to booking a lymphatic appointment. We take our clients health and safety seriously and will NOT go outside our scope of practice or against medical orders. If you have any of the conditions listed, and your doctor approves lymphatic massage, a written release from your medical doctor will be required.
No. The lymphatic work itself is not painful. Your lymph fluid is just below the surface of your skin so, we won't need to apply deep pressure to stimulate it. If you are post-op, the pain you feel will be from your procedures, not the lymphatic work.
The fluid is being pushed to the heart and kidneys therefore, you will mainly urinate the fluid out. It is also common to sweat and poop out the excess fluid. You may feel the urge to do these shortly after your session is complete. That is normal. If you have not expelled fluids within 1 hour of the session, you are likely dehydrated.
It does help to have a light snack prior to your session as well as hydrating with water. With the stimulation of the lymphatic system, your body is working to eliminate unwanted fluid which can result in slight weakness if the body is not properly hydrated and nourished.
We suggest removing any garments that will hinder the flow of the work. Tight clothes such as compression socks, sleeves, fajas, or bras will need to be removed in order to not disrupt the flow. You will be properly draped at all times.
Yes. In order to assist the lymphatic system, we will need to stimulate the major lymph nodes and visceral organs in the body therefore, your stomach will need to be touched.
Results vary by client. Some clients see a physical change within the first session, others may not see the physical change for a few sessions. Understand, lymphatic drainage sessions, especially post-op sessions take time becuase the body has to heal from excess force from the surgery
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Fluid is NOT actively pushed out of your incisions. This can cause major problems such as infections and is completely unacceptable. If you are post-op and still have your drainage tubes, the fluid will expel itself to the tubes, we will NOT actively push fluid towards it. Our sole purpose is to assist in the body's natural defense system therefore, we will not disrupt the natural flow by forcing fluid out of the body.
If you are a Post-Op client, we recommend getting sessions every 1-2 days for a MINIMUM of 5 sessions for non-cosmetic and 10 sessions for cosmetic.
Your pre and post op care should be just as an important to you as your surgery/procedure itself. Your body is about to undergo a major change and will need help to recover so, just as you are planning to invest in your procedure, please plan to invest in multiple lymphatic drainage sessions. We require a MINIMUM of 5 sessions after post-op surgery whether you have had a cosmetic or non-cosmetic surgery.
We suggest as soon as 24-48 hours after your procedure that you begin lymphatic work UNLESS your surgeon suggests otherwise.
We handle all the essentials to provide you with a smooth, in-home experience. However, we ask for your cooperation for the following: Ample space to work and setup materials, an electrical outlet close to the workspace, close access to a bathroom, and a safe, clean smoke-free environment. In addition, since we have to carry an array of materials for in-home sessions, we will not travel to residences that have more than one flight of stairs with no elevator access (i.e. apartments that are on third floors or higher).
Yes. Kesa does travel to hotels, but she DOES NOT travel to motels. We take our safety very serious when it comes to our mobile services therefore, we communicate with the front desk upon arrival your room number as well as duration of service. We also communicate with the front desk that if we have not reported back within a certain amount of time, the front desk has the right to conduct a safety check.
